So yeah, I'll be out there again racing and encouraging everyone else at the same time, especially when I need it along Ocean Parkway I 20 seconds, but still a PR technically. everyone in wave two had my upmost sympathy. It wasn't until the last mile the sun came out and it really felt hot. It was warm but mid 60s while foggy/overcast made it much more bearable. The negative: it's boring as hell after you leave Prospect Park - that long slow trudge down Ocean Parkway is mind numbing with almost no shade if it's sunny, ending in Coney Island is a bit far for some runners and can be annoying when it gets really crowded, it's in mid May when as happened this past race it can be hot.įor this past race: I'm a decent runner so starting in the first wave was a huge advantage. Positives: It's the only half in NYC without hills in the second half of the course so it's a great place to PR with NYRR, live nearby so plenty of time to sleep and eat, and again my club enjoys a huge amount of support and representation at this race. That said the Brooklyn Half and I have a love/hate relationship. I live in Brooklyn and am a member of Prospect Park Track Club (and occasionally run with the cool folks at South Brooklyn Running Club), so the race is very much home turf.
